Ymir

is a database designed for the scientific community interested in exploration of cryoconite data. We collected 16S rRNA gene high throughput sequencing from multiple studies and made them easy to browse.

We have chosen Ymir as the leitmotif for the name of our database because in Norse mythology it was the first living creature to emerge from the rain and the melted snow - this is exactly what you’d find inside the cryoconite.

Access to YmirDB is provided through the browser that allows you to search for data by the names of glaciers, geographical glacier regions and names of data authors. Another way to access the data is to use the interactive glacier map.
